Starting something new, like your child’s first karate class, can feel exciting—and a little intimidating. At Etowah Kenpo Academy, we work hard to make every child’s first class a positive, encouraging, and stress-free experience. Whether your child is brand new to martial arts for kids or just new to the Kenpo class structure, we’re honored to welcome your family.

Our structured Kenpo class is supportive and age-appropriate, ensuring that your child feels comfortable in their first karate class. They will be guided every step of the way as they explore martial arts for kids.
A warm, welcoming introduction from the instructor sets the tone for the first karate class. We begin with a guided warm-up focused on coordination and body awareness, which is essential in our Kenpo class structure. Simple Kenpo techniques are taught at an appropriate pace, ensuring that all participants can follow along comfortably. We establish clear expectations around safety, listening, and respect during our martial arts for kids classes. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are key components of our approach.
There is no pressure to perform perfectly; our focus is on learning, effort, and building confidence. Parents are welcome to observe quietly from designated areas.
Please bring:
Comfortable athletic clothing
A water bottle labeled with your child’s name
Bare feet (Kenpo is practiced without shoes unless otherwise instructed)
Helpful tips:
Tie long hair back and remove jewelry
Arrive 5–10 minutes early for check-in to ensure a smooth start to your child’s first karate class.
Bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn as part of the Kenpo class structure.
Uniforms will be discussed after enrollment—no uniform is required for the first class focused on martial arts for kids.
We group students by age to ensure the best learning experience in our Kenpo class structure:
Kenpo Cubs – Designed for toddler children, ages 2.5 - 3, beginning their learning journey and perfect for their first karate class.
Kenpo Juniors – For ages 7–10, focusing on technique, discipline, and confidence-building, making it an excellent choice for martial arts for kids.
If you’re unsure which class is best, we’re happy to help guide you.
We understand that life happens. Occasionally, classes, including the first karate class, may be canceled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Children may miss their Kenpo class due to illness, school events, or family vacations. It's important to note that tuition is based on enrollment in our martial arts for kids program, not individual attendance. We ask that sick children stay home to help keep everyone healthy.
Safety is our top priority in every first karate class. All classes emphasize controlled movements, clear instructor guidance, and respect for self, instructors, and classmates. The Kenpo class structure is designed to teach students responsibility, self-control, and confidence—not aggression. This focus makes our martial arts for kids a valuable experience.
